Google runs its own training platform, Google Cloud Skills Boost, with a large free tier plus the paid subscription above. For most engineers Skills Boost is the lowest-friction prep option because it is first-party content mapped directly to exam objectives, and the hands-on labs run against real Google Cloud projects rather than screenshots.

Beyond Google’s own content, the third-party market is competitive. Coursera hosts Google’s official Preparing for Google Cloud Certification learning paths (also reachable through a Coursera for Business seat). Udemy courses from instructors such as Dan Sullivan cover the Associate and Professional exams and frequently retail for $15 to $30 during sales.

Pragmatic prep stack for an Associate Cloud Engineer: free Skills Boost fundamentals plus the always-free Google Cloud tier for hands-on practice, one structured course (Skills Boost paid, Coursera, or Udemy), and a set of practice exams in the final two weeks. Total direct cost is under $200, or effectively the $299 annual subscription if you want the included exam voucher and cloud credits bundled in. Either way the exam-plus-prep direct spend is dwarfed by the indirect study-time cost below.

The direct cost of Google Cloud certification (exam plus prep) is the line your finance team reviews. The indirect cost (engineer study time during work hours) is the line that dominates the true total. As with every technical certification, the exam fee is a rounding error against the cost of the hours.

Consider a senior engineer at a fully-loaded salary of $180,000 (base $140,000 plus roughly 30 percent for benefits, payroll taxes, and overhead). At engineering-organisation scale (50+ engineers actively credentialing) the per-individual subscription model is operationally messy. Google Cloud offers enterprise training through Google Cloud Skills Boost for teams and business, with per-learner catalogue access, admin dashboards, learning-path assignment, and progress reporting. Google quotes team and enterprise pricing by cohort rather than a fixed public rate, so treat any single per-seat figure circulating online as an estimate until you have a quote.

Google also runs instructor-led courses through its authorised training partner network (in-person or virtual), typically multi-day and priced per learner per course, and partner-delivered bootcamps around the Associate and Professional exams. Bulk exam vouchers are available through the exam provider for organisations credentialing at volume.
