Training Cost by Company Size in 2026

Per-employee training spend varies meaningfully by organisation size because fixed costs amortise across larger populations. SMBs pay more per head, enterprises spread the dollar further. Two dedicated pages cover the dynamics at each scale with practical 2026 benchmarks.

Small Business Training Cost
$1,000 to $2,500 per employee
Under 500 employees; fixed costs don’t amortise
Enterprise Training Cost
$600 to $1,000 per employee
10,000+ employees; LMS, content, facilitator economies of scale

Why the Per-Head Gap Exists

Three structural reasons drive the SMB-vs-enterprise per-employee training cost gap. LMS fixed cost (a $50K enterprise LMS contract spread across 100 employees is $500 per head; across 50,000 employees it’s $1 per head). Content development cost (a single $14,300 Chapman-CPI-adjusted Level 1 eLearning module is the same cost regardless of audience size). Facilitator engagement (a $5,000 one-day external facilitator is the same cost for 5 or 50 attendees).
