About TrainingCost.com
TrainingCost.com is an independent 2026 corporate training cost reference for L&D, HR, and finance teams. It exists to give readers a single site that aggregates the ATD State of the Industry anchor figures, LinkedIn Learning Workplace Learning Report context, Training Magazine Industry Report data, Chapman Alliance eLearning per-finished-hour benchmarks with CPI inflation translation, Kirkpatrick and Phillips ROI methodology, by-type pricing for compliance, technical, soft skills, leadership, sales, onboarding, and safety training, and the honest split between vendors that publish LMS pricing and vendors that do not.
Why this site exists
Corporate L&D cost data in 2026 is fragmented. ATD publishes the annual State of the Industry headline numbers ($1,054 per employee, 13.7 hours, $165 per hour for the 2025 report covering 2024 data) inside a press release that does not show up at the top of most cost-comparison searches. LinkedIn Learning publishes the Workplace Learning Report annually; Training Magazine publishes the Industry Report annually; McKinsey publishes intermittent L&D cost research; CIPD publishes the Learning at Work survey for the UK; Brandon Hall Group sells most of its segmentation behind a paywall. Vendor LMS pricing is split between platforms that publish (TalentLMS, 360Learning, iSpring, LinkedIn Learning) and platforms that do not (Docebo, Cornerstone, Workday Learning, SAP SuccessFactors Learning) and the quote-based gap is filled by Vendr, G2, Capterra, and educate-me aggregators with materially different methodologies.
On top of that, almost every published cost figure covers direct cost only: content licences, facilitator fees, LMS subscriptions, materials. The indirect cost (employee time off desk at loaded salary, replacement coverage, productivity ramp) is roughly 40 to 60 percent of the true total for most programs and is the single biggest reason L&D budgets are systematically under-quoted to CFOs and boards.
This site collapses that into one place. The home-page calculator computes direct plus indirect using the ATD anchors as defaults and a loaded-salary multiplier you control. The by-type pages publish per-hour and per-employee ranges with each figure traced to the source it came from. The LMS comparison page is split into public-pricing and quote-based vendors with the third-party source clearly labelled. The headline number is the headline, not buried at the bottom of a 3,000-word piece.
Who builds this
TrainingCost.com is built and maintained by Oliver Wakefield-Smith at Digital Signet. Digital Signet runs a portfolio of independent, single-topic cost reference sites covering corporate L&D, HR, hiring, retention, and software-engineering operations. Each site is editorially independent of the vendors, associations, and authorities it cites.
OnboardingCost.com
Sister site covering the first-year new-hire investment stack, of which training is one column. Cross-linked from /by-type/onboarding-training.
ChurnCost.com
Customer-churn cost framing for SaaS finance teams. Same direct-plus-indirect-cost calculator pattern applied to retention rather than L&D.
EngineeringHiringCost.com
Engineering-hiring cost reference using BLS / Glassdoor / Stack Overflow / levels.fyi anchors. Cluster cousin in the people-cost portfolio.
ReworkCost.com
Engineering-rework cost reference. Sister-site to the technical-training upskilling ROI case, where reduced rework is one of the few Phillips-Level-5 defensible returns.
Editorial position
We are not a training vendor, an LMS, a coaching platform, a content library, or a consultancy lead-gen funnel. We are not affiliated with the Association for Talent Development (ATD), the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), Brandon Hall Group, LinkedIn Learning, Workday, Cornerstone OnDemand, Docebo, SAP, TalentLMS, LearnUpon, Sandler, MEDDIC Academy, Challenger, Force Management, Winning by Design, BetterUp, CoachHub, Torch, Vendr, G2, Gartner, Capterra, Harvard Business School, Wharton, the Phillips ROI Institute, Kirkpatrick Partners, the International Coach Federation, the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, or any other authority, vendor, association, or training platform named on this site. Brand and authority names appear because they are the real names of the things the prices come from.
We do not run paid placements. No vendor, association, or platform has paid for inclusion. There are no live affiliate links today. If that ever changes, disclosure goes at the top of the page that contains the link, not in a footer.
We surface disagreements among authorities. ATD reports cost-per-employee on direct expenditure only; LinkedIn Learning Workplace Learning Report frames L&D priorities without published per-employee figures; Training Magazine Industry Report uses a different segmentation; McKinsey research uses a third. Where they differ, the page surfaces the spread rather than picking a single point estimate.

Editorial principles
Source pattern
Every price range cites a publicly listed source. ATD State of the Industry Report press releases (td.org) anchor the $1,054 per employee / 13.7 hours / $165 per hour figures. LinkedIn Learning Workplace Learning Report and Training Magazine Industry Report cover delivery-mix and L&D priority data. Chapman Alliance eLearning Cost-and-Time data anchors the per-finished-hour development cost with a clearly-labelled CPI inflation adjustment for 2026. BLS Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics anchor facilitator pay; ICF Global Coaching Study anchors coach rates. LMS quote-based pricing draws on Vendr, G2, Gartner Peer Insights, and Capterra aggregators with the source labelled inline.
Not financial or vendor advice
This site is informational. It is not a substitute for an RFP, vendor demo, procurement negotiation, or independent financial analysis. Cost ranges do not constitute a budget recommendation. Treat figures as directional anchors with a plus-or-minus 20 percent margin against any single quote.
No paid placements
We are not affiliated with ATD, SHRM, Brandon Hall, LinkedIn Learning, Workday, Cornerstone, Docebo, SAP, TalentLMS, LearnUpon, Sandler, MEDDIC, Challenger, Force Management, BetterUp, CoachHub, Torch, Vendr, G2, Gartner, Capterra, Harvard Business School, Wharton, Phillips ROI Institute, Kirkpatrick Partners, or any vendor, association, or training platform. Brand and authority names appear for editorial specificity, not endorsement. No vendor has paid for inclusion. There are no live affiliate links today.
Monthly review cadence
Every page carries a single LAST_VERIFIED_DATE stamp. ATD State of the Industry data is reviewed on the annual cadence ATD publishes (May release for prior-year data); LinkedIn Learning Workplace Learning Report and Training Magazine Industry Report on their annual cadences; vendor pricing pages on a quarterly first-business-week pass; BLS OES on the annual May release. The verified date moves forward only after that review actually happens. The footer date and the Article schema dateModified always agree.
Single-source freshness
One ISO date and one human label drive every freshness indicator on the site: footer stamp, per-page disclaimer, WebSite schema dateModified, and every Article schema dateModified across the 17 content pages. Rolling forward one constant in lib/schema.ts updates every freshness indicator that should agree.
No fabricated quote-level pricing
We do not invent individual contract quotes. Ranges describe what vendors publicly publish, what Vendr / G2 / Capterra publicly aggregate, or what ATD and LinkedIn Learning publicly report. If your enterprise procurement quote is outside our range, the quote you have is the real number for you. We will not tell you what a specific vendor charged a named buyer because we cannot verify it.
Methodology in brief
The full source list and per-figure verification record lives on the methodology page. In summary: the home calculator and benchmarks page anchor on ATD 2025 State of the Industry. Indirect cost uses the loaded-salary method ((loaded annual salary / 2,080 working hours) x training hours x headcount) with a 30 percent loaded multiplier defended explicitly on the calculator methodology page. By-type pricing aggregates vendor public pricing pages, industry-aggregator surveys, and Vendr / G2 / Capterra quote-based estimates labelled inline. LMS comparison is split into public and quote-based with the source named per figure. eLearning development cost uses Chapman Alliance 2010 anchors with a 2010-to-2026 CPI inflation adjustment of approximately +42 percent. ROI uses Kirkpatrick four-level + Phillips Level 5 with three worked examples on the ROI measurement page.
When sources disagree, the page surfaces the disagreement. When a range is wide (for example, $20 to $80 per delivered hour for compliance training, or $1,054 to $1,283 per employee year over year across the 2024 and 2025 ATD reports), the page explains what drives the spread.

Contact and corrections
Corrections, source updates, or factual disputes: email via digitalsignet.com. Include the page URL, the figure or claim in question, and the source you would like us to cite or check against.
Response SLA: 5 business days for corrections review. If a published source change invalidates a figure on the site (ATD State of the Industry release, LMS vendor pricing-page revision, Chapman Alliance reissue, BLS OES annual release, or a flagged correction from a reader), the LAST_VERIFIED_DATE rolls forward only after the new source has been reviewed and the page text updated.
